Fine Art Canvas

Thanks for following along! I wanted to put together a post about canvas. Canvas has become super popular the last couple of years. I love the clean feel it gives and the beautiful texture it displays. I offer archival (meaning that it will last 100 plus years in normal lighting conditions without showing signs of age) fine art canvas. Canvas prints can be made a few different ways. This is why cost can vary. The image can be directly printed into the material of the canvas with a inkjet process (which is what I offer) or the image is first printed on photographic paper and then fused and bonded with heat to the canvas (cost less but looks way different). You don’t see as much of the canvas texture with the second process. Another reason on cost difference is the type of ink being used in the printing process. The ink might not be archival so your artwork could begin to fade in as little as two years. Photography is an investment and printing somewhere that has your best interest in invaluable.

I highly recommend printing large wall prints and canvas through the studio. This ensures you will get an archival piece with the best color representation of your image.

Now to discuss visual impact. This can be personal preference but I think can make or break your display. Bigger is not always better.  A rule of thumb I follow to determine if an image will give you that “ooooo” feel. Hold up your hand to the subjects head. Your subjects head should be anywhere between an open hand and a closed fist. This boy in the apple orchard is a 24×36 size. There is so much to the orchard shot that I love seeing big. This bigger size not only draws you to his soft expression but makes you almost feel like your in the orchard ready to grab and apple or feel the ray of sunshine coming through the trees. The image of the baby and her brother on the table is an 11×14. I don’t think I would like this super big. The type of image doesn’t not have direct eye contact to focus on and is a super close up shot so I think as a bigger piece your eyes could drift away to the edge. On the flip side I do prefer some close ups printed really big. Images will great skin and hair detail and dramatic expressions can really be striking in large format.

I love taking a look at my clients home and offering advice on finding the best unique ways to display their images.

Canvas all the time… No way! I do not recommend canvas prints every single time. I feel like a home with an overwhelming amount of canvas prints can be well, overwhelming. I offer so many different types of products. I always say mix it up. Doing something different each session can really add to your homes decor and visual feeling.

The Joy of Family

I captured this super gorgeous family a few days ago. The love just pours out from within them. I have been working with them since the oldest was a newborn. I am so grateful to work with clients year after year. To see growth and change before my lens is so magical.

Time Escapes Me & Less is More

Another family share from last fall. Time did escape me last year and still does these days now that I am a mom. I kinda feel I am hesitant to share my work because I have to say something clever about the imagery when really the images do speak for themselves. I think this year I will get in the habit to post more and say less. Less pressure to come up with the perfect words and after all less is defiantly more.  Sometimes the words come to me naturally and sometimes there is nothing up there… blaming it on the mom thing, ha!  After all I can make the rules, right?!? I love instagram for that matter because it is full of images and less wordy fluff… but the hashtags kind of drive me crazy!

How sweet it is to be loved by you!

This super sweet momma son duo will melt your heart. A little over a year ago dad was tragically taken from us very unexpectedly. He was my husband’s cousin. We all miss him so much. He always had a smile on his face much like his little boy. His friendly nature was infectious.  Hunting and fishing were some of his favorite hobbies. We decided to incorporate one of his shirts in the session which was so special and meaningful. The warm fall colors and those precious smiles are just the best.
