Planning for a Winter Session

Winter sessions are a bit less popular than summer and fall but boy are they pretty. They can be tricky to plan for based and temps and weather conditions so I always say “let’s pick a date” and “be flexible”. A lot of the times we end up moving it around based on conditions. My session load is a bit less in the winter months so it allows for some wiggle room. Some days we get lucky with a tad warmer day but layers and warm clothing is a must. They are super fast paced and typically don’t last more than 20-30 minutes.

This session was super quick and we weren’t in one place for long. Especially based on the kids ages. I am glad we got this in this past weekend before the frigid temps come later this week. Stay warm and happy winter!

2018 Reflection

As I reflect on 2018 I realize gosh… it was a hard year!  Personally and professionally. Getting lost in motherhood and a huge home remodel project on our house, which I am incredibly grateful for, left me a tad frazzled. The kind where you are so frazzled you really don’t feel frazzled. You just go about on auto pilot. We survived it and everything is coming together beautifully. Professionally I am feeling a slight shift in my work, which is exciting but scary at the same time. There are some concepts and a direction I am feeling a pull towards and just have to make that leap. I am so lucky to have a solid group of clients that see me year after year that are loyal to me. I am also very thankful for all the new ones I get to meet and hopefully grow a long lasting relationship with. That is something I cherish the most.

So if you are wondering why I have been a tad more quite on social media I just haven’t had the time to be social on the screen, ha! I am approaching a little slower season and am going to be sharing some of my work from the past months that just cannot go unseen.

Enjoy this cute little family. I love the focus on their connection and the purity of the photos.

The Journey

I love love seeing this family! You may remember our session last fall with the baby bump.  http://magdelenasphotography.com/2017/12/29/expecting-you/  Well little man has reached his sitting milestone and it was time to reconnect. We had a beautiful summer day on our side. I love this first image. It speaks the words “journey” “navigating”. Isn’t that what family and life is, right? I do think so. We are on this journey and are blessed with kind souls in our life.  Take a moment, pause and breathe in the goodness that surrounds you. Sure there will be dark days ahead but focusing on the the ones that warm your heart will carry you through…

Baby Bump Love

This gorgeous family added a little boy to their clan a few days ago. I had to post the goodness before I post any sneak peaks from the newborn session! Can you just imagine how darling the newborn images are?!? This beautiful mom owns WildRoots Salon & Studio (https://www.wildrootssalem.com) in Salem. I take my Pilates classes there. She is amazing!

Digital Images

I love sharing my views on the many different ways to get your images. Although I am a product based studio I do offer digital images and I think they are important to have. This post could be extremely long but I will try to keep it short and sweet.

Why do I think they are important? Mainly for the reason of security. If you choose a digital image option they come on a usb drive. I recommend throwing that usb right in the safe or security box. You never know if something unfortunate could happen to me, your home or your tangible photos and products. Having your electronic digital images ensures a back up.

We are all guilty of never printing our digital images. Even me! I only printed one image from my family session last year. I have intentions on designing an album (which I think is the best way to tell the whole story of a session and get all your favorites in one place). I even have a few iPhones collecting dust with precious memories. All I can say is do the absolute best you can. Enjoying your memories on your walls daily is awesome and fulfilling and leaving something tangible for your family and future generations to come is an irreplaceable gift that will be treasured immensely.

My favorite combination of products to do for my clients is pick a statement piece for the wall, choose all your favorites for a album and select a bundle of digital images for safe keeping.

Thanks for listening!
